PLEDGE – Victoria Cole, Service Manager, Devon Partnership Trust
“The Iris Centre is an intensive psychotherapy day programme for people with a diagnosis of severe and complex personality disorder. Our people have all encountered extensive abuse and neglect in their early lives and as a result struggle to make and maintain relationships. The Iris Centre is run along Therapeutic Community lines, embracing values of belongingness, containment/ feeling safe, communication, participation and a willingness to try new things. Gardening is most often a feature of daily living in the TC model and can lend a certain ease to the process of working together. We pledge to further develop and ‘grow’ our recovery garden.”
UPDATE – Public Health Wales have had a great sustainability day and their Sustainable Market Place Event was very well recevied.
Amanda Davies, Our Space Engagement Lead said:
We had a really good response rate thank you & we had a lot of fun. Several of our Executive Directors also turned up to support the event too which was great. Staff were really positive about what we want to do and there were lots of suggestions about what we can try and incorporate both in the short and long term. It was well worth all the hard work and the stress I was feeling in the days leading up to the event!
NEWS – GET ENERGY SMART
PLEDGE – David Morris, Managing Director, NHS Shared Business Services
“NHS Shared Business Services will pledge to reduce non-essential business travel by encouraging the use of technology to facilitate meetings. This will reduce the impact on the environment by reducing business mileage, fuel and air fare.”
NEWS – Low Carbon Europe are retained energy and sustainability consultants for Central North West London Mental Health Foundation Trust.
This year, in the lead up to NHS Sustainability Day we have been holding sustainability roadshows at four of their key London sites. These roadshows have been providing information about sustainability in its broadest sense and given the opportunity for CNWL employees to sign up to the Trust Sustainability Champions Network as well as make pledges about what they will be doing on the 23rd. Amongst other pledges around switching off monitors, going paperless for the day, and revamping the gardens one of the Trust premises (Horton Haven) will be participating in planting two trees at 2pm and another site where there is no capacity to plant trees (St Pancras South Wing) will be planting two plants at 2pm to help increase biodiversity within the area..
SLIDESHOWS – Did you miss out on our brilliant Roadshows? Well don’t worry, you can view all of our presentations by signing up HERE.
NEWS – A NORTH DEVON BASED GP SURGERY GO GREEN FOR SUSTAINABILITY DAY
Provided by Litchdon Medical Centre
“We are a GP surgery based in North Devon and are currently working to become a greener practice so taking part in the NHS Sustainability Day is another step forward for us.
Our main idea is that we hope to plant a tree near our pond outside. There was talk of baking some tasty treats using fair-trade ingredients – we have a green committee meeting this Friday so I’m sure more ideas will come from that.”
