Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust host sustainability event

The Trust’s Sustainable Development Working Group manned a stand in the Damers Restaurant between 11.00am and 3.00pm, sharing the Trust’s progress with the sustainability agenda. A selection of suppliers were also on hand to discuss all things green. Like all public services, the Trust has challenging targets to meet around carbon reduction, however, progressing the sustainable agenda is not just about meeting those targets, it is about us acknowledging the impact that our operation makes on the environment and recognising the strong link between that environment and the health and wellbeing of the public. Delivering a robust sustainability strategy will ultimately save the Trust money, which can be re-directed into improvements for patients. they asked all on the day to do their bit:

  •  think before you print;
  • switch off lights and equipment when not needed;
  • consider a Conference Call instead of travelling to meetings;
  • use water wisely and report dripping taps;
  • turn radiators down to reduce heat before opening windows;
  • ensure waste is segregated appropriately;
  • recycle where possible; and
  • check stock levels regularly to ensure stock not going out of date.

 Suppliers that joined the trust included:

  • Craig’s Farm Dairy – the Trusts approved supplier of Dairy Produce;
  • Sita – the Trusts Domestic Waste Contractor; and
  • SRCL – the Trusts Clinical Waste Contractor
