Aileen Shackell Landscape Design and Design with Nature fully support the 14:14 campaign to encourage NHS Trusts across England to provide fresh produce on site for patients and staff believing that this initiative can plant the seed for a shift towards a more sustainable future for the health service as a whole. Consequently we are offering a free initial site visit and outline design proposal for two or three selected hospital sites across the Midlands and Southern England, to explore how the plots can be fully integrated into an existing site, in a courtyard or as part of an eye catching entrance area landscape feature.
Aileen Shackell Landscape Design is currently working with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare on the NHS Forest, an ambitious project to connect health and the environment. She is the principal author of guidance on creating successful outdoor areas in healthcare settings, published in 2012 – Greenspace design for Health and Well-being
Midlands based Design with Nature provides ecologically focused landscape related services to clients in the public, private and charitable sectors. Specialisms include the design of spaces for healing and the establishment / management of woodlands.
Both practices can assist healthcare settings with getting better value for money from outdoor areas by maximising their therapeutic potential, as well as where scope allows, also enabling them to contribute towards the achievement of carbon and other environmental targets, such as improved management of water resources. Outputs are tailored to each site, but range from site wide appraisals through to detailed design for individual spaces.
