As NHS Sustainability Day approaches, what can we learn from the trusts who are doing it right?
An important fixture in any healthcare professional’s diary, NHS Sustainability Day falls on 27 March. In the three years the campaign has been running it has managed to increase the amount of debate on sustainable healthcare practices to new levels, inspiring hundreds of NHS Trusts and healthcare providers to examine their own practices. Such has been the impact of the day that in 2013 alone over 100 NHS trusts took part in activities, events and workshops throughout the country.
As the years have passed, participation levels have increased, shown by the response to the Sustainability Day road shows created in 2013. The road shows were set up to support trusts who have consistently demonstrated their ability to lead on the sustainable agenda in healthcare in their region. Starting in October 2013 in Hull and East Yorkshire, the road shows have demonstrated the appetite across the NHS to address sustainability.
